Generally, a pier will need to be registered if it (a) is wider than 6 ft, but less than 8 ft in width, (b) has a platform at the end of the pier that has a surface area of less than 300 ft (w/ a max. width of 10 feet) and/or (c) more than 2 boat slips for the first 50 feet of shoreline frontage and 1 boat slip for each additional 50 feet of shoreline frontage.

True North Real Estate in Fish Creek saw its housing sales volume nearly double in 2010 from 2009, Granted, 2009 was a difficult and down year for housing, but for True North last year's numbers were a move in the right direction.

"We saw an uptick in activity in the third and fourth quarters," said Sara Massey, a broker and partner in the Door County business. "As the year came to an end, I think people started to feel a little more confident about jumping in and making offers."

Hailing from the Chicago area, Gilster moved to Door County in 1974 and began his career in real estate the following year. He founded several brokerage firms including The Gilster Company and Door County Horizons. During the course of his brokerage career, he has trained and managed scores of Door County real estate professionals and coordinated and/or marketed over a dozen real estate developments. Gilster has been an active participant in local, state and national REALTOR associations and has been recognized as both the Door County and Wisconsin REALTOR of the Year. His personal career production exceeds $160,000,000.
