Door County’s only city and the county seat, Sturgeon Bay has a rich maritime history that dates back to its founding in 1835. The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal was completed in 1881, connecting Lake Michigan to the waters of Green Bay and fostering a shipbuilding industry that continues to this day. The historic Michigan Street Steel Bridge, along with two other bridges, connect the mainland with Northern Door County.
